Opening Dates

  • Opens all year

David and Elizabeth Ross welcome you to our family farm in Drimoleague , the heart of West Cork and home of the well known Drimoleague Heritage Walkways. Our Pod Pairc has a special area for six campervans, and our state of the art facilities are yours to enjoy for an ACTIVE and interesting stay...see our YouTube clip or find us on FACEBOOK under "Top of the Rock Pod Pairc and Walking Centre"

We are privileged to be the third generation of Rosses to live here at the Top of the Rock , looking out on an ever-changing vista of mountain, cloud and sunshine . Our Pod Páirc is a safe and homely place for your family holiday or weekend away. It is also a perfect venue for couples with miles of walkways and river banks to wander along. The restaurants of Bantry and Skibbereen offer some great West Cork food when day is done. For a rest from the busyness of life, or a spiritual retreat walking in the footsteps of St Finbarr, you will come to appreciate something very unique about the Top of the Rock. For the adventure enthusiast in you, there is walking, cycling, cross country running, and orienteering in the challenging landscape surrounding us. If you love to be on a working farm with cattle, sheep, ducks and our dog Daisy, the Top of the Rock is the place for you…and remember, it’s a place for all seasons! Céad Míle Failte!

DRIMOLEAGUE, (near Bantry) Co. Cork, Ireland
Take N71 from Cork, then R581 from Bandon to Drimoleague. Turn right at pharmacy, proceed for one mile to Top of the Rock. We are on the right just beyond the crossroads.

A large sign on the approach to Drimoleague describes the village as being the Heart of West Cork. We believe this well describes the place. The distinctiveness that causes West Cork to be known as ‘a place apart’ can be found here in full blossom, yet it remains largely undiscovered by the average visitor, who prefers to keep nearer to the coast. Here at the heart is to be found rich folklore, warm friendliness, down-to-earth faith, lively cultural expressions and a varied and interesting history going back to St Finbarr of the 6th century and beyond. Here also is a landscape of remarkable beauty, comprising mountains, undulating farmland, pristine riverbank, woodland and a largely unspoiled flora and fauna.

Drimoleague is located on the R586, about 60km west of Cork city, and almost equidistant by 12km each, from the busy market towns of Bantry, Skibbereen and Dunmanway. It is to be found in the River Ilen basin, and its main street stretches out alongside one of its fast flowing tributaries, the Ruagach. Its location formed the natural junction for the Bantry and Skibbereen branches of the West Cork Railway, whose arrival here in 1880 transformed a scattered hamlet into a thriving village. The village itself has undergone a huge face-lift in recent years. It is a strong community, proud of its past and welcoming to newcomers.

Our Pods/Walking Centre/Reviews

  • We just opened November 2013...It will be your job to recommend us! and we believe you will!
    Cead Míle Failte.

We have seven pods in all……

“ORCHARD”….A luxury pod located beneath Sam Rosses’ old apple trees; it faces south for sunshine. Its luxurious but simple interior speaks of elegance and earthiness combined. It has a double bed, a toilet and handwash basin, mini kitchen, dining table and a pull-out sofa for extra family members.
“DROM-DA-LIAG”…. A luxury pod located next to the “daimh liag”…. A stone-roofed structure reminiscent of Drimoleague’s first church of the 8th century which was originally located near our farm. The sun shining through the sycamore trees makes it a perfect spot for reflection and quiet solace. This pod has a double bed, a toilet and handwash basin, mini kitchen, dining table and a pull-out sofa for extra family members.
“SHEEPFOLD”…. In 1842 this tiny field served as the fold for impounding stray sheep at the great Top of the Rock fairs of days gone by. Located in the highest part of the Pod Páirc it commands an excellent view over the Ilen Valley. This family pod comes with two fold-up beds and can hold up to five adults, or a family group of six. The full facilities of the campsite kitchen, showers, laundry and games room are close by.
“WILD FRUITS” … located beside a fence where Irish ‘fraughans’ or blue berries have always flourished. We have also introduced wild strawberries and an apple tree. This pod catches the sun and looks out over the green paddock where sheep and lambs graze. It is a family pod with two single fold up beds. The full camp facilities are just 70 meters away.
“DROIMEANN”…. this standard pod overlooks the cow stall and churn stand. From here you get a full view of the hand-milking process each morning in high season which will sometimes feature our Irish rare  breed Droimeann cow!   This pod holds a family of two adults and two small children. It is equipped with two fold-up beds and the facilities of the campsite are just 60 meters away.
“FUSCHIA” …this standard pod enjoys a panoramic view of the Castledonovan hills and is bounded by a fuschia hedge, a glorious plant which flourishes in West Cork. This pod holds a family of two adults and two small children, or else three adults. It is equipped with two fold-up beds and the facilities of the campsite are located just 50 meters away.
“MOSCOVY”… This standard pod has a fine view of the duck pond across the yard. Sam Rosses’ Moscovy ducks used to make the journey to the river each day when foxes were not so plentiful. Nowadays we provide the water entertainment on site for them and they are fun to watch! This pod holds a family of two adults and two small children, or else three adults. It is equipped with two fold-up beds and the facilities of the campsite are located just 50 meters away.

 Walking Centre

Our Walking Centre is a large multipurpose space occupying the first floor of our main Pod Páirc building. It can hold up to 80 people for a function, yet it is equally suited to a small group sitting round having coffee. A bright well-appointed room, it has a panoramic view over the hills and valleys towards Castledonovan. The Walking Centre has many purposes:

  • Reception area for booking in to the Pod Páirc
  • Information area for all walks in West Cork. There are free leaflets, and books and maps availableto purchase. There are alsoinformation panels on the walls with maps and pictures of the walks of West Cork at a glance.
  • Retail area with books, maps, pilgrim books, walking sticks, hats and raingear.
  • Food serving area. At certain times of the year, and for certain package weeks we offer breakfast, coffee or lunch from our farm kitchen situated in the Walking Centre.
  • Function room: The room is available at certain times of the year for functions, banquets and smaller gatherings….

Please contact David and Elizabeth at (00353)-2831547

Since walking is the main tourism activity in this part of West Cork we have designed our centre to be of maximum benefit to people who want to walk the long and short distance trails. We are also available to give personal assistance to people in terms of advice on suitable walks. On occasion we are available to lead group walks/pilgrim retreat walks. We can also arrange transport to and from walking destinations on the Sheeps’ Head and St Finbarr’s Pilgrim Way and we can put arrange accommodation along the route for you, and luggage transfers if required.
